Contracting History (1989β1993)
- iWarp Supercomputer Project: In late 1989, after Keith Lofstrom recruited him across the hallway from BiiN, Randal Schwartz contracted as system administrator for the ~20 engineers developing the iWarp systolic array supercomputer chip in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).
- Second Direct Internet Connection: Randal spearheaded establishing Intel's second direct connection to the global Internetβa dedicated 56k line linking Oregon engineers to CMU and DARPA, coordinating directly with Intel headquarters in Santa Clara.
- Systems & Network Administration: Randal managed Sun Microsystems workstation networks and broader Unix network administration across Hawthorn Farm through late 1993.
