  • Buying My Boss's House on 178th from Seth Bradley

  • While contracting as system administrator on Intel's iWarp supercomputer project, my main engineering manager was Seth Bradley.
  • Visiting Seth's House and Later Inquiring

    • During my time on iWarp, I had visited Seth's home a couple of times for team events and get-togethers.
    • Sometime later, after I had transitioned off the iWarp team, Seth and I stayed in touch.
    • Over a casual conversation—either shooting pool or having lunch—Seth mentioned that he was putting his house on 178th Avenue up for sale and asked if I might be interested.
  • Closing the Deal in August 1996

    • I loved the house and jumped at the opportunity.
    • In August 1996, another offer was being written, but Seth gave me the chance to purchase it directly.
    • That began a wonderful 15-year chapter living in the house on 178th Avenue (from 1996 through February 2011).
    • Eventually, following the dot-com crash and market fluctuations that wiped out the home equity, I surrendered the property in 2011—closing an iconic chapter of my Portland-area life.
