  • Recalling the beginning of my journey with the Unix operating system.

  • The Dialup Account

    • In January 2018, I recalled my very first experience with Unix, which occurred in 1977.
    • I obtained a dialup number to a machine that had a password-less account.
    • Upon logging in, my first command was ls /usr/games, and I began figuring out the operating system from there.
    • My friend and sysadmin Joe Pruett was familiar with the machine and could verify that the account "sarcher" indeed had no password.
