  • Reed College is a private liberal arts college in Portland, Oregon, founded in 1908.
  • Reed was an early adopter of Unix computing systems in the Pacific Northwest. In the summer of 1977, Randal Schwartz gained dial-up access to Reed College's PDP-11 running Unix V6 via an acoustic coupler modem, where he typed ls /usr/games and self-taught himself Unix and C.
