The 50-Dollar Hamburger
The 50-Dollar Hamburger
- The $50 Hamburger (now often called the "$100 hamburger" due to inflation and aviation fuel prices) is classic pilot folklore and slang.
- It refers to an excuse for general aviation pilots to fly to a distant airfield solely to eat a meal at an on-field airport diner or restaurant, logging flight hours and cross-country time in the process.
- Randal frequently flew the 52-mile run from Hillsboro Airport to Albany Municipal Airport to tie down, have a burger, and fly back to build cross-country hours for his Instrument Rating.
