Instrument Rating
Instrument Rating
- An Instrument Rating (IFR) is an aviation certification that qualifies a pilot to fly purely by reference to cockpit instruments under Instrument Flight Rules, without outside visual cues.
- Given the prevalent rainy and overcast weather of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest, Randal pursued an instrument rating shortly after obtaining his Private Pilot License.
- Required 50 hours of cross-country flight time, hood practice, and actual IMC weather flights, which Randal accomplished through repeated runs to Albany Municipal Airport.
- See The 52-Mile Fifty-Dollar Hamburger Run to Albany Airport.
