  • Defending my historical role in Perl's growth and Wikipedia notability.
  • Wikipedia Notability

    • On August 22, 2011, a thread on Hacker News debated whether I was notable enough to have a dedicated Wikipedia page.
    • I participated in the discussion to correct factual assertions and defend my legacy:
      • I co-authored the first book on Perl (the Camel book) and the second book (Learning Perl), which became the seminal teaching guides for the language.
      • I argued that the rapid growth of the interactive web from 1994 to 1997 cannot be explained historically without including Perl, and by extension, the books that taught most of that generation's web developers how to code.
      • I also noted that many in the open source community know me primarily as the host of FLOSS Weekly.
These facts are as Randal recalls them, but much time has passed for most of this. If you find a factual error, please email realmerlyn@gmail.com.
