- Mount Rainier is a massive active stratovolcano in the Cascade Range of Washington, the highest mountain in the state and the Cascade Range (14,411 feet).
- Visible from hundreds of miles away in Pacific Northwest flight corridors.
- During Randal's night IFR flight back from Tacoma, Washington, a spectacular lightning storm illuminated the sky near Mount Rainier beneath the full moon.
