Max Tegmark
- Max Tegmark is a Swedish-American physicist, cosmologist, and machine learning researcher. He is a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the president of the Future of Life Institute. Max is known for his research on the ultimate taxonomy of universes, quantum foundations, and his books, including Our Mathematical Universe and Life 3.0: Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.
- In recent years, Max has become a prominent public voice and leading advocate concerning artificial intelligence safety, policy, and AI alignment. Through the Future of Life Institute, he spearheaded the famous March 2023 open letter calling for a 6-month pause on training AI systems more powerful than GPT-4 to allow for the development of safety protocols.
- Max was a featured speaker on several Geek Cruises and InSight Cruises voyages, including the December 2008 Bright Horizons 2 cruise and the May 2011 Bright Horizons 9 Cruise.
