- Alan Boss is an astrophysicist and astronomer at the Carnegie Institution's Department of Terrestrial Magnetism (DTM).
- He is a leading authority on extrasolar planet formation and search efforts, author of The Crowded Universe: The Search for Living Planets, and has Minor Planet 29137 named "Alanboss" in his honor.
- Was a presenter on the Cosmic Trails 2 Cruise in March 2011.
