Venezuela Open Source and Perl Conference 2006

  • Venezuela Open Source and Perl Conference 2006

  • In October 2006, I traveled to Venezuela to present at a national open-source and Perl conference. I was invited as a special guest of the state-owned oil and natural gas company, PDVSA (Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A.), who hosted the conference.
  • Presentations in Caracas & Maturín

    • I traveled to both Caracas and Maturín to present the conference materials.
    • I presented a full-day Learning Perl tutorial that was translated into Spanish for the local developer audience.
    • I delivered a keynote presentation titled "Free software: a look back, a look ahead", examining the history and future trajectory of the open-source movement.
  • Travel Sequence

    • This trip marked the beginning of a massive autumn travel marathon:
      • Flew to Venezuela for the week-long conference.
      • Immediately afterward, flew to Miami and spent a relaxing transition week staying along the main road of South Miami Beach, Florida.
      • Following that beach week, boarded the m/s Veendam for the Geek Cruises MacMania 5 voyage in the Caribbean.
