Venezuela Open Source and Perl Conference 2006
- In October 2006, I traveled to Venezuela to present at a national open-source and Perl conference. I was invited as a special guest of the state-owned oil and natural gas company, PDVSA (Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A.), who hosted the conference.
Presentations in Caracas & Maturín
- I traveled to both Caracas and Maturín to present the conference materials.
- I presented a full-day Learning Perl tutorial that was translated into Spanish for the local developer audience.
- I delivered a keynote presentation titled "Free software: a look back, a look ahead", examining the history and future trajectory of the open-source movement.
Travel Sequence
- This trip marked the beginning of a massive autumn travel marathon:
- Flew to Venezuela for the week-long conference.
- Immediately afterward, flew to Miami and spent a relaxing transition week staying along the main road of South Miami Beach, Florida.
- Following that beach week, boarded the m/s Veendam for the Geek Cruises MacMania 5 voyage in the Caribbean.
- This trip marked the beginning of a massive autumn travel marathon:
